Rev. Fr. John Vlahos, Dean

Father John was born and raised in Merriville, Indiana. He is the son of Stella and the late Anastasios Vlahos. Upon graduation from Merrillville High School in 1993, he enrolled at Indiana University, and in 1997 he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Finance.

Immediately thereafter, Fr. John attended Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts and in May 2001, he graduated with a Masters of Divinity.

From July 2001 through July 2002, Father John served as Assistant Director of the St.Photios National Shrine in St. Augustine, Florida. He was ordained to the Holy Diaconate on January 27, 2002 in Merrillville, Indiana by Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago. 

In July of 2002 he was appointed Deacon to His Eminence, Archbishop Demetrios of America in which capacity he served until January 2006.

Fr. John was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by Archbishop Demetrios of America at the Cathedral of St. Paul in Hempstead, New York on January 21, 2006, and served as the second priest of that community for two years.

In May of 2008, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America assigned Father John to the Church of the Holy Resurrection in Brookville, New York, where he served faithfully as Proistamenos for six years. On April 11th, 2010, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios bestowed the offikion of Economos upon Fr. John.

On June 22nd, 2014, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America installed Father John as the Dean of our beloved Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. On that same day, His Eminence bestowed upon Fr. John the offikion of Protopresbyter.

Father John and Presvytera Tina have two daughters, Steliani and Andreana.

Deacon Sotiri Michalatos

Deacon Sotiri grew up in Westchester, NY with his beloved family. His GOYA days were instrumental in forming his love for Christ. He took part in Archdiocesan programs throughout high school and college; from homeless ministries, to Project Mexico, to Camp Saint Paul, and Ionian Village.

After graduating from the University at Buffalo with a degree in Economics, Deacon Sotiri chose to attend Holy Cross Seminary in Boston, Massachusetts.

Upon graduation, Deacon Sotiri joined the Archdiocesan Cathedral of Holy Trinity working as a part time pastoral assistant for the church and part time with the beloved Cathedral School assisting in technology and religion classes. Two years working with the Cathedral community, he was blessed to be ordained by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros in December of 2019. Continuing his work at the Cathedral has been a joy for Deacon Sotiri. Together with his wife, Kathy, they are grateful to be a part of this amazing community!
